F1 Singapore Racing Tips from MEIDE Singapore

Gearing up for F1 Singapore Grand Prix and want to get the best out of it?

Then this is a must-read for you.

Here are 6 quick and shocking hacks to ensure you enjoy this racing festival thoroughly:

1) Book Tickets Early, Like NOW

Chances are, if you are reading this, you are a fan of F1 Racing, or at least somewhat intrigued.

Did you know that F1 Singapore Tickets go on sale, starting from MONTHS before the actual event?

For instance, even though the F1 Singapore Grand Prix Official Event Dates this year are 15 to 17 Sep 2023, the ticket sales actually already started from 13 Apr 2023!

Needless to say, at this point of writing, tickets are already selling like hotcakes. There are pretty limited seats left, albeit not to the point of desperation. But, if you want to be in the racing action scene, grab your tickets quickly now!

Don’t say we didn’t help – here is the link to buying tickets officially: https://singaporegp.sg/en/tickets/all

Next, remember to book your accommodation fast and furious.

If you are a fan of F1 and racing, you would not want to buy the entry tickets but end up with nowhere to stay, right?

Furthermore, expect major traffic jams and transportation re-routes with the Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit being “activated” for the weekend night races.

Therefore, it is almost mandatory that you snap up your hotel bookings for the F1 event here. Whether you are traveling to Singapore as a foreigner, or already residing in the country but want to enjoy a smoother F1 weekend, take this advice.

In fact, there are selected hotel rooms and suites where one can enjoy the F1 race without even stepping out of the suite! To spice things up, you can even book restaurants in hotels to satisfy both your stomach and senses all at once.

So, to help you, here are the top few hotels and dining choices, with the guaranteed views of the racing:

  • Pan Pacific Hotel Singapore
  • The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore
  • Marina Bay Sands Singapore
  • Swissotel The Stamford Hotel
  • J.W. Marriott Singapore South Beach

Dining Whilst Watching F1 Singapore Race Live:

  • CÉ LA VI Singapore at Marina Bay Sands

Okay, enough expensive stuff for now. This goes out to our students and juniors who may not have the financial ability yet to purchase the F1 tickets.

Here are some ‘Not so’ secret spots to catch the race action in Singapore

  • Cookhouse by Koufu @ Marina Square;
  • The Helix Bridge;
  • National Library, 12th Floor – there is a huge window on the left side with a view of Suntec City and Marina Bay;
  • 11th Floor of Shaw Towers Multi-storey Carpark;
  • National Gallery Rooftop – it is open-air and overlooks the Padang;
  • Marina Square – Level 3 Roof Garden and Level 4 Tennis Courts;
  • The Overhead linkbridge between Millenia Walk and Marina Square;

However, take note that this information may not always be up-to-date! Every year, there may be tweaks to the race circuit. On top of that, as information is shared and spread to more people, the operators and security personnel may start to cordon off or block off access to certain areas.

Ultimately, if you end up being lost and out of options, remember – not all hope is lost.

You can still catch the high-definition and live-streamed F1 action via your electronic devices or simply at home. At this point, we understand these channels will broadcast the race:

  • meWatch
  • MediaCorp Channel 5
  • Singtel / Starhub TV Streaming Packages

Have you heard of the term “kiasu”?

Well, it means “afraid to lose out” – a similar term to “FOMO / Fear Of Missing Out” used elsewhere. Basically, MEIDE Team recommends you arrive in Singapore a few days before the actual F1 event!

Why?

Simply because F1 is a huge event in Singapore, and weeks to days leading up to the event, you can already expect a large number of roadshows, shopping center promotions, and festivals all around Singapore stirring up the excitement!

Hence, you should take time to check out the city center, shopping malls, and other attractions around the island prior to the F1 weekend. Think: simulation racing cars, racing events, F1 trivial, games and prizes, and more racing.

Honestly, this makes for a thrilling tourist experience. If you are new to Singapore, we assure that this would make your F1 Singapore experience uniquely unforgettable indeed.

5) Consider Joining As A Race Official

Heads up! This is not for the faint-hearted – do you want to be more than just a tourist to the F1 Grand Prix?

Then, consider joining F1 Singapore not just as an audience, but part of the actual event!

Unknown to many F1 viewers in the stands, hotels and couches at home, the F1 Grand Prix boasts over a thousand volunteer race officials.

From being marshalls, to clerks, to medical support, and more, the roles and responsibilities are tremendous. So, it is not surprising that the application period starts early in the year. For 2023, the registration to be part of the Singapore Grand Prix began around early March. Subsequently, candidates undergo a selection process, and continue with training schedules all the way to the actual event weekend.

For one, you can get to walk the actual race track before, and after the actual race. Depending on the event organizer and itinerary, look out for details on when you are allowed onto the track. Of course, priority is given to the “higher-tier” ticket-holders. Nonetheless, fret not as based on past experience, everybody will definitely get their chance, whether earlier or later.
